Israeli Police Detain Four Arab-Israeli Politicians Over Planned Demonstration

Israeli police detained four Arab-Israeli politicians, all former members of the Israeli parliament, for allegedly attempting to organize a demonstration relating to the war in Gaza. The four—Mohammad Barakeh, Sami Abu Shehadeh, Mtanes Shehadeh and Haneen Zoabi—are well-known in Israel’s Arab community. Police said they had attempted to hold a demonstration in Nazareth contrary to police instructions and that it could have led to “incitement and disturbances of public order.”
