An atmospherical phenomenon known as a lunar halo coincided with an aurora that illuminated the sky in Erskine, Alberta, on Friday, December 1.Footage recorded by Siv Heang Tav shows a ring of light encircling the moon as streaks of green aurora dance across the sky.According to the National Weather Service, the ring of light is caused by moonlight (sunlight that is reflected off the moon) refracted through ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.The phenomenon is the subject of folklore, the Farmer’s Almanac said, as an indicator of impending bad weather in winter months.
