Namibian President Hage Geingob Dies at 82

    NAIROBI—Namibian President Hage Geingob, who helped lead his country’s long struggle to free itself from South Africa’s apartheid regime, died Sunday, his office said. Geingob, 82 years old, was among a generation of activists from Kenya, Ghana, Mozambique and elsewhere, who in the decades following World War II pushed, often violently, for independence from colonial rule. Starting in the 1960s, Geingob rose through the ranks of the country’s liberation movement, the South West Africa People’s Organization, under the leadership of Sam Nujoma, the father of independent Namibia.
