Man dies in hospital after early morning house fire

Feb. 22—Decatur Fire & Rescue firefighters rescued a man from a home that was on fire Thursday morning on Ninth Avenue Southeast, but he died later at the hospital, Chief Tracy Thornton said. Thornton said Stations 1, 3, 5 and 6 responded to the 6:27 a.m. call and found the house heavily involved with fire coming out of the front and back windows and doors.
