The way things panned out – with Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari blowing its power unit just 20 laps into the race – it didn’t matter that the Red Bulls had not made their tyre stops under the Virtual Safety Car when it was applied on Lap 9. But had Leclerc’s car not broken, it would have been highly significant and could conceivably have lost Red Bull the race.
