FTSE 100 Live: ‘Heightened recession risk’ with UK private sector in shock decline, but shares climb

Stock market risk appetite continued to improve today despite more evidence of Europe’s slowing economy. The FTSE 100 index, which last night ended its longest losing run since 2019, rose even as PMI figures for August showed weaker activity trends in the UK, Germany and France.
