The kids are alright – it’s the parents I’m worried about

Many of us, as we embark on parenthood, have aspirations for our children that are fervent but oddly inchoate. We want them to be happy, and good (or at any rate, not bad). But as to the precise elements of happiness and goodness, or the character traits that we should encourage to achieve these desiderata – the vision becomes less certain.
