BERLIN—In Germany, where Jewish life was nearly eradicated in the Holocaust, protecting Jews has long been a priority of the state, with most synagogues, Jewish schools, kindergartens and cultural centers receiving police protection all year round. Now members of the Jewish community say they have been living in fear after the attack on Israel last week triggered an outpouring of antisemitism, including anti-Israel rallies in neighborhoods with large populations of migrants from the Middle East. The protests and the surge in online hate speech against Jews persuaded many families to keep their children away from schools and kindergartens for fear of violent incidents.
