Palestinian Authority President Criticizes Hamas in Call With Venezuelan Leader

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas criticized the actions of Hamas in a phone call with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA, his first public comments on the group since the Oct. 7 killings of Israeli civilians by Hamas. Abbas, who said Hamas’s actions don’t represent the Palestinian people, called for the release of “civilians, prisoners, and detainees on both sides of the conflict.”
