Anti-Trump Conservatives Urge Haley to Stay in Race

While the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference cheered former President Donald Trump on, across the river in Washington, a very different conservative conference was rooting for his opponent, hoping against hope that Nikki Haley might notch an upset victory in the South Carolina primary. “I want her to stay in as long as possible,” said Barbara Comstock, a former Republican congresswoman from Virginia who has endorsed Haley ahead of the state’s March 5 primary. The Never Trumpers may be a minority of the GOP, as the primaries to date have demonstrated, but Trump will continue to pay a price for driving them out of the party, she said: “Trump is going to lose in the fall because of the people here.”
