Arab Nations in Draft Statement Call on Palestinian Factions to Unite Under PLO

A draft declaration from a gathering of Arab and Muslim nations in Saudi Arabia called on all factions to come under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the body overseeing the government that runs the West Bank. The document, which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and hasn’t been released, suggests Iran is now more open to engage with the PLO after years of cultivating Hamas, which has so far rejected the organization. The draft communique of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation says the PLO “is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people” and calls “on the Palestinian factions and forces to unite under its umbrella” through a national partnership.
