Biden Offers Backing to Palestinian Authority’s Abbas in Call

President Biden spoke Saturday with President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority, offering it during the call his "full support" for humanitarian efforts in Gaza. The White House said Abbas briefed the U.S. president on his engagement in the region and “his efforts to bring urgently needed humanitarian assistance" to the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza. Biden condemned Hamas’s attack on Israel, the White House said, “and reiterated that Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination.”
