Boca Juniors Legend Riquelme Leads Fans in Protest Over Club Election

Juan Roman Riquelme, the Boca Juniors legend and current vice president of the club, spearheaded a massive fan demonstration on December 3, protesting a judicial decision to suspend the election for the club’s presidency. The election has been painted as a showdown between Riquelme and former Argentine President Mauricio Macri, although the latter is technically running for vice-president, on a ticket with Andres Ibarra, a former government minister. The vote had been slated for Sunday but was postponed due to alleged voter registration irregularities, the Buenos Aires Times said.Macri and Ibarra were questioning the presence of 13,664 new members on the electoral roll, the Buenos Aires Times said. Riquelme has rejected allegations of wrongdoing.Current president Jorge Ameal looked set to continue in the position until a new election date could be fixed. Credit: @finiyela via Storyful
