Chicagoland temperatures below normal to start the week; will the cold snap stay around?

It's been a mild winter in Chicagoland, with temperatures often well above average. But we're headed for a dip, at least for a few days or so, to start spring. The work week began frigid Monday morning, with temperatures in the mid- to upper 20s and wind chills in the teens throughout Chicagoland. The average high for March 18 is just below 48 degrees, but Monday highs are projected to only reach the upper 30s, along with potential flurries or even light lake effect snow in Northwest Indiana. It will warm up into the 50s, with gusty winds, for the first day of spring Tuesday, but that projects to be the only day with temperatures around or above average for the 7-day forecast.
