The mighty Ring begins to revolve again, as the Royal Opera House unveils the first instalment of its four-year new production of Wagner’s massive music drama – a hugely generous leaving present for departing music director Antonio Pappano, who will return to conduct each new opera before handing over the complete cycle to his successor.
