European Stocks Flirt With All-Time Highs Amid Rate-Cut Hopes

    A number of major European indexes were flirting with all-time highs on Tuesday, as stocks across the region continue to rise on the back of expectations that central banks will cut interest rates starting early next year. The pan-European Stoxx 600 was down less than 0.1%. European stocks have marched higher—as with U.S. equities—amid hopes that waning inflation and slowing growth will push central banks to cut interest rates early next year, which is sooner than once thought.
