Government shutdown likely, but not worrying: Columnist

    A government shutdown is on the horizon, but do we have to worry? House Republicans put forward a funding proposal that seams highly unlikely to pass through the Senate. With a shutdown all but certain, Yahoo Finance's Senior Columnist Rick Newman joins to explain why most everyday Americans shouldn't be phased. Newman points out that we have been through this before, with the longest U.S. government shutdown in history occurring during the Trump administration, but also the government recently avoided a potential catastrophe in defaulting on the U.S. debt. "It is just going to be a tedious and infuriating process that's going to go on for weeks and perhaps a couple of months," says Newman. Newman says that the more important question may be whether or not House Speaker Kevin McCarthy can keep his position after the spending fight is resolved.
