Health startup partners with providers on LGBTQ+ care

With members of the LGBTQIA+ community routinely under attack by American lawmakers, telehealth startup FOLX Health is partnering with healthcare insurers Cigna and the Blue Cross of Blue Shield to provide equitable personalized care for LGBTQIA+ patients. FOLX Health CEO Liana Douillet Guzmán sits down with Yahoo Finance's Anjalee Khemlani to discuss the lack of formal training and expertise from primary care providers for treating LGBTQIA+ patients, especially in the case of gender-affirming care. "Oftentimes, when you look for affirming care, what that means is that a clinician has said, 'We are willing to care for this community.' that doesn't mean that they have trained the entire staff of that office for how to interact with members of our community," Guzmán explains. "And it certainly does not mean that that clinician has spent the time to really develop an expertise on how our needs may differ from our cis and straight counterparts." Guzmán goes on to comment on the U.S. laws and political movements targeting the LGBTQIA+ community.
