Thousands of people have died and thousands more have been injured since the militant group Hamas launched an unprecedented surprise attack on Israel on Oct. 7 and Israel retaliated with a bombing campaign and total siege of the neighboring Gaza Strip, leaving the region on the verge of all-out war. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday that about 400 American citizens and their family members, which totals about 1,000 people, "are stuck in Gaza and want to get out." Blinken said Hamas is the only hurdle blocking the exit of Americans and their families.
