The pickup suggests that "specs are positioning themselves in front of what should be a bullish API/EIA storage cycle that will most likely still be trying to work off a hangover from last week's freeze," Mizuho's Robert Yawger says in a note. The EIA is expected to report an 800,000 reduction in crude inventories for the week ended Jan. 26, according to a Wall Street Journal survey of analysts.
