Senate Group Edges Closer to Proposal Aimed at Securing Southern Border

    A group of bipartisan senators hopes to release its proposal to tighten U.S. border laws later this week, a top negotiator said, with any deal likely to face an uphill battle in the sharply divided Congress. Kyrsten Sinema (I., Ariz.) and Chris Murphy (D., Conn.) on policy changes that aim to better position U.S. officials to handle the large number of migrants who are crossing the southern border. Republicans have demanded changes to border law as a condition for supporting a separate funding bill for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
