Earnings from Southwest Airlines earnings are due Thursday, and the one thing that’s safe to say is that the report will be much better than the one from the previous year. The fourth quarter of 2022 was when Southwest had nearly 17,000 cancellations around Christmas, something that ultimately resulted in a $140 million settlement with the U.S. Department of Transportation. Also keep in mind: Southwest provided an update on fourth-quarter revenue per available seat mile, or RASM, an industry metric, that hints at solid results for the fourth quarter and an optimistic outlook for 2024.
