Thousands of people gathered in Beirut on Thursday, January 4, for the funeral of a Hamas leader killed in a drone strike in the city.Footage posted to Instagram shows a coffin being carried through crowds of people outside Imam Ali Mosque.According to Lebanese media, funerals were held for the senior leader, Saleh al-Arouri, and two commanders of Hamas’s military wing, who were also killed in Tuesday’s strike.According to the Times of Israel, 57-year-old al-Arouri was deputy head of Hamas’s political bureau and “considered the de facto leader of Hamas’s military wing in the West Bank.”The Washington Post reported an unnamed US defense official as saying Israel was responsible for the strike.
