Video shows announcement from 2022, not return of Covid-era restrictions in Guangzhou in 2023

As China recorded an increase in respiratory illness cases towards the end of 2023, a video was shared hundreds of times in social media posts that falsely claimed officials in the southern megacity of Guangzhou announced the reintroduction of Covid-style restrictions on December 2. The video in fact shows a health official discussing tightened hospital admissions and outpatient requirements in Guangzhou a year earlier in December 2022.
